"Pearl in the Sand"
If you are looking for a good book to read over the summer check out "Pearl in the Sand" by Tessa Afshar. This is one of the best books I have ever read. It's the captivating story of Rahab from the book of Joshua in the bible. The story begins in Joshua 2 and ends in Joshua 6. While I have always been familiar with the story of Rahab I never thought about the rest of her story. Tessa brings to life Rahab, her family, and the 2 Jewish spies that Rahab hid while they were in Jericho. Tessa takes you through the beautiful love story of Salmone and Rahab. The story is thought provoking, emotional and I promise you won't want to put the down.

TAKE A STAND AGAINST BULLYING ANTI-BULLYING CAMP
On July 26th – July 28th CONTACT Lubbock is hosting our 1st Annual
TAKE A STAND AGAINST BULLYING - Anti-Bullying Camp
Over 5.7 million youth in the United States are estimated to be involved in bullying as either a bully, a target of bullying, or both. The one day camp is designed to give youth the tools to TAKE A STAND AGAINST BULLYING, build self-esteem and feel empowered.
TAKE A STAND AGAINST BULLYING Anti-Bullying Camp is $10 per child and will run from
8:30 AM – 12:30 PM at Lakeridge United Methodist Church – Family Activity Center on the following days:
July 26, 2011: going into 5th grade
July 27, 2011: going into 6th grade
July 28, 2011: going into 7th and 8th grade
*There is a limit of 20 participants per day.
Water and lunch will be provided for all participants. Activities for the day include Bullies 2 Buddies, changing the negative into the POSTIVE action plan, fun and games! HEARTBEAT
The Lubbock Heartbeat Support Group For Survivors After Suicide is now meeting on the second Wednesday of each month, and childcare is provided. The support group can help promote healing through listening. Local meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM in Room 44. The location is the LakeRidge Methodist Church, 4701 82nd Street, Lubbock, TX 79424. OUR NEXT MEETING IS WEDNESDAY MAY 11TH.
Every community experiences deaths by suicide. When an intentionally self-inflicted death occurs families and friends suffer a magnitude of isolated, complicated grief. Because the grief that follows suicide is different from grief resulting from other causes of death, there is seldom the understanding, reinforcement, and guidance for growth toward healthy reconciliation and adjustment through these compounded grief dynamics. Everyone grieves differently but one common factor in the grief process is the need to be heard. Telling the story is a healing experience. Listening can be the best gift you give to anyone that is navigating through grief.

GOD is more than able.
GOD is more than able. HE is there. HE is with us in each and everything we do.
"For this reason I keel before the Father, from whom HIS whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of HIS glorious riches HE may strengthen you with power through HIS Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of GOD." Ephesians 3:14-19
Next week will be talking about forgiveness. Since it is against human nature to forgive and forget we will talk about what Christ says about forgiveness.

Wild Fires
This past Sunday was Resurrection Sunday on this day we are reminded of the awesomeness of CHRIST. I encourage you to look around you every day and see just how awesome our GOD the GOD of Abraham Isaac and Jacob truly is.
Wild fires are running through Texas and destroying everything in their sight. At Bible study last week week we heard the story of a Church being totally burned down. Everything gone except the BIBLE sitting on the altar and a CROSS. In the path of total devastation GOD chose to leave a message of HOPE, LOVE AND HIS PROMISE OF SALVATION. No matter the devastation there is always HOPE in the LORD. HE IS THE ONE AND ONLY GOD.

"Just Like Jesus"
I am reading a book by Max Lucado “Just Like Jesus."
Written on the front cover is: GOD loves you just the way you are, but he refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be JUST LIKE JESUS.” The book is amazing and I encourage everyone to read the book. Max is a great story teller and takes Bible stories and gives us a new perspective on what might be the back story. The story of how Jesus healed the leper gives us insight into the life of the leper and how it felt to be the leper. After Jesus healed the leper Max leads us to how the leper might have felt. The leper thought.. “He could have haled me with a word. But he wanted to do more than heal me. He wanted to honor me, to validate me, to christen me. Imagine that.. unworthy of the touch of a man, yet worthy of the touch of GOD.”

Fear of the LORD
"The remarkable thing about fearing GOD is that when you fear the GOD, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear GOD, you fear everything else." Oswald Chambers
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow HIS precepts have good understanding. To HIM belongs eternal praise. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in HIS commands." Psalms 111:10 & 112:1
"Blessed is every one that fears the LORD; that walks in HIS ways." Psalms 128:1
"He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our GOD. Many will see and fear, and will trust in the LORD." Psalms 40:3
"Teach me YOUR ways, O LORD, and I will walk in YOUR truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear YOUR name." Psalms 86:11
The message is clear. Trust in the LORD, the Holy Spirit who lives in you. It is not always easy to do as we are instructed. Human nature alone makes us think we are in control and we can conquer anything. When we recognize that only GOD is truly in control and when we trust in GOD with our whole heart our relationship becomes deeper, stronger, and we know without hesitation FEAR of the LORD is truly the beginning of wisdom.

Continuing our discussion...
We all know the story of the great Exodus of how GOD led HIS children out of Egypt. In our haste to get to the splitting of the Red Sea we sometimes miss the best part of the story. Exodus 14:13 & 14 “Moses said unto the people, Fear not, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, which HE will show you today: for the Egyptians who you have seen today, you will never see them again. The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
In this scripture we see one of GOD’s most memorable miracles
and in this case we are told not fear the miracle they are about to behold and this is the salvation of the LORD. In the song of Moses found in Exodus 15 the people sing “The LORD is my strength and my song; HE has become my salvation.” Then the story moves on to the Ten Commandments they end with Moses telling the people “Do not be afraid. GOD has come to test you, so that the fear of GOD will be with you to keep you from sinning.”
There is a healthy fear of GOD that does keep us from sinning.
Without that fear our walk with GOD never goes to the level GOD wants or intended. I encourage all of us to stop and consider carefully how healthy is our fear of the LORD. Speaking for myself I am trying to work on this aspect every day. We would love your input on this subject.

How do I have a healthy fear of the LORD?
From the beginning GOD has instructed us to Love HIM but also to Fear HIM. In Deuteronomy 5:28 & 29 The GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob speaks to Moses “The LORD heard you when you spoke to me,
I have heard what this people said to you. Everything they said was good. Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!” Can you imagine what our LORD felt when he conversed with Moses? HE wanted so desperately for all of us to be inclined to fear HIM, to keep his commands and he made promises to us and our children that things would go well with us forever. What a promise we have missed out on!
In Deuteronomy 6: 1-8, 13, & 24 GOD has given us HIS commands, decrees and laws HE Commanded, not suggested we follow. In three different verses in chapter 6 we are told to fear the LORD and it will go well with you and your children and your children’s children forever. Somehow we have dismissed this teaching as something that is not pertinent in today’s world. I believe it is important, one of the most important things we can do in our relationship with GOD.
GOD has put it on my heart to explore this subject for the next few days, so I hope you will stay with us and we will seek out GOD’s point of view through his words.

A Healthy Fear
Often times we forget one of the important components of our relationship with the LORD…a healthy fear of the LORD. When we don’t have a healthy fear we let sin rule over us thinking GOD will forgive us, and we won’t receive any judgment. The fact is GOD tells us to fear HIM, and that HE will judge every one of our acts, even the ones we have hidden. “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear GOD and keep HIS commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For GOD will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14.
Those who have a healthy fear of GOD have a closer walk with the LORD. “The fear of the LORD leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble” Proverbs 19:23. Healthy fear of the LORD will protect you from evil. “Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.” Proverbs 16:6. “The LORD delights in those who fear HIM, who put their hope in HIS unfailing love.” Psalms 147:11. Remember to always walk in the fear of the LORD. We should respect HIS ways, and always follow HIS commands.

The world today.
With everything going on in the world it is sometimes over whelming to look at the devastation that surrounds us. GOD did not intend that we live in fear, so when those fearful feelings over whelm us scripture is the best place to turn to find the comfort of GOD. We leave you today with: In that day they will say, "Surely this is our GOD; we trusted in Him, and He saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in Him; let us REJOICE and be glad in His salvation." Isaiah 25:9

GOD's Words
A quote from James Robinson of Life Today makes a great point: "Christians know that we have future assurance of eternal life in the kingdom of heaven and yet fail to recognize the kingdom of heaven is in us here and now. What good is it to have car insurance on a car that won't run? GOD did not just promise life in the by and by, but also in the here and now. Jesus says we do have it and that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. It is within us, and it is to be released through us. It is this power and the glory of GOD that will turn our upside-down world right-side up."
Our GOD is a GOD of Covenants and Promises and when we are obedient to GOD there are no limits to what the LORD can and will do through us.

Believing GOD
Believing GOD, the one true God the GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is a daily choice.
A choice that shapes everything we do and say. We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with media trying to shape what we say and do, what we believe and how we live.
So how do we keep our hearts in Christ? Stay in the word of Christ. Read your Bible every day; take time to meditate on HIS words. Never believe what you hear on TV, Radio, the internet, or read in the newest best seller the media pushes. Verify for yourself what the truth of the matter really is. You will only find the truth in GOD’s words in the Bible. The Bible states plainly that man will tickle our ears and tell us what we want to hear.
1 John 4: 1-2 gives clear instructions on how to determine the truth. "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God."
What we believe is a choice. Christ encourages us to choose wisely and to choose life. Deuteronomy 30:19-20 "This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."

Praising GOD no matter the situation...
Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are His deeds, and His righteousness endures forever. He has caused His wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate. Psalms 111:2-4
With all that is going on world wide it is sometimes hard to remember to praise GOD in all things. Please keep all the people in Japan, Middle East, the state of California, and all the nations of the earth in your thoughts and prayers today and going forward. Remember the LORD is ALWAYS gracious and compassionate. In Habakkuk chapter 3, he has seen total devistation all around him yet Habakkuk praises the LORD, his GOD. "Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments." Habakkuk 3:18-19

On Purpose...
You are no mistake. You are not an “opps”. You are not an afterthought. You are here for a reason. GOD made you on purpose. You are His child. He looked you over from head to toe and beamed with joy over you, His precious child.
When you feel as though you don’t belong, or you have no purpose remember David’s prayer in Psalms 139: 13-14: “For YOU created my inmost being; YOU knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise YOU because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; YOUR works are wonderful, I know that full well.” You are GOD’s creation and HE longs to have an intimate relationship with you. Call upon the LORD and pray to HIM and HE will listen to you and if you listen closely HE will come to you and HE will declare: “I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Seek the LORD with all your heart and you will find your purpose. Jeremiah 29:10-13

IN Genesis 54:20 Joseph assures his brothers that “You intended to harm me, but GOD intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”
Although we don’t understand the reasons GOD does give us the mercy and grace to move forward and make something good out of our grief.
And in Romans 8:1 we are reminded that “In all things GOD works for the good of those who love him.”

A still small whisper
Today our thoughts are with the obvious, or what we think is the obvious. Sometimes we feel so alone that we can't imagine anyone cares.
In 1 Kings 19:11-12, Elijah is standing on a mountain as GOD has instructed him to do. "A great strong wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks into pieces, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire came a still small voice." The still small voice WAS GOD! Sometimes when we feel alone we look for big obvious signs instead of the still small voice of the LORD. GOD never leaves us or forsakes us, and GOD is always able, more than able, to do any and everything for us.
We leave you with Matthew 7:7 and Matthew 6:33: "Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. But seek first the Kingdom of GOD and His righteousness and all these things will be given unto you as well."
